It is with great sadness that this site's creator, Richard Sargent, passed away on September 29th, 2007. His site will remain in operation in his honour.
Please read below to catch a little bit of a brief glimpse into Richard's life, provided by his wife.
Richard was born on February 26, 1959. His father, Doug Sargent, joined the North York Fire Department (now Toronto Fire Services) that year as well.
Rick grew up with firefighters around all the time. They would help each other put up a fence, put down carpet, etc. He said it felt like one big family.
Rick had been trading and selling/buying patches for many years. He really got into it when his daughter Michele was born in 1993 and they did it together - she loved to see what came in the mail. They would go out together to take pictures of the fire trucks at various halls around Ontario.
Rick would never leave without his camera. When he and his family use to go up North to Lake Nipissing for long weekends they would always make a day trip into North Bay, Sturgeon Falls, Sudbury. It wasn't to look at the sites, it was to visit the fire departments and he would take pictures of their trucks for the website.
Rick just recently got into designing patches for various fire departments - Sudbury Airport, Bombardier (Downsview), Tay Township, Christian Island.
As his friend Neil said in his reading at the funeral, "Rick could tell what truck was coming down York Mills Road just by the sound of the siren and he was always right".
Richard passed away suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 48 - September 29, 2007.
