On January 1, 2001 Central York Fire Services was born. Central York Fire Services is the amalgamation of the Newmarket and Aurora Fire Departments. They protect an approx. population of 115,000 citizens out of 3 Fire Stations (4th planned for 2005), located throughout the former municipalities. They utilize 12 pieces of firefighting apparatus staffed by 80 full time professional firefighters. Their staff also includes Training Officers, Fire Prevention Ofiicers & Inspectors, and Command Personnel.
